EVERYONE IS GUILTY OF MALNUTRITION!!!

Malnutrition is a common condition which results when  a person does not take in enough food and nutrients or when he/she takes food or nutrients in excess of what is required.

Malnutrition could be under or over nutrition.

Malnutrition is the leading cause of many health problems we face in Africa-problems with physical and mental development.

Malnutrition leads to vulnerability to lots of infection because the immune system becomes weak due to inadequate nutrients.

Many children are short statured,  have reduced body mass/fat, swollen feet and tummy, appear weak, have dry skin.

Lack of hygiene and sanitation, lack of breastfeeding, GIT infections eg parasitic infection such as hookworm (iron deficiency anaemia)

Seven classes of food exist,

Carbohydrates-yam,rice,garri,potatoes.  They provide energy for the body.

Proteins-egg,milk,fish,meat, beans. They repair and rebuild tissues and cells.

Fats and oil-olive oil, palm oil, butter, margarine, coconut oil, groundnut oil. They provide heat for the body.

Vitamins-orange,pineapple,guava,mango,pawpaw. Act as antioxidants and help to fight infections in the body.

Mineral salts-sodium,potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulphur, selenium, iodine, copper, chlorine. They help in metabolism. Eg sardine, onions, tomatoes, vegetables.

Fibre-oats,cereals,seeds. They help in digestion and relieve constipation.

Water-best natural drink ever☺☺☺

Balanced diet- diet that contains all the essential nutrients and classes of food in their adequate proportions.
So it's very important we have a balanced diet on a regular basis.

Preventive measures include improved agricultural practices, availability of food, easy access to health care services, encourage breastfeeding, improve hygiene and sanitation, improve the economy.

No more lies, just tell the truth.
Thanks.
